01Who we are
This policy explains what happens to information when you use the UrWally iPhone app and this website. UrWally is made by Joel Raj (“we”, “us”), who is responsible for the information described here. It goes with our Terms and conditions.
02On your iPhone
Almost everything UrWally knows stays in the app’s storage on your iPhone:
- your entries: amounts, whether money came in, went out or moved, the account, tags, notes and dates;
- your accounts and their starting balances, and your tags and settings;
- payments found in bank texts and receipts while they wait for you to confirm them, with the text they came from;
- which bank account, by its last digits, goes to which UrWally account, and the balance your bank’s latest text mentioned.
We can’t see any of it.
03iCloud sync
- Sync with iCloud is on unless you turn it off in UrWally’s Settings. While it’s on and you’re signed in to iCloud, your entries, accounts and tags are copied to your private iCloud database, in a space only UrWally uses, and kept the same on every device signed in to your Apple Account.
- That private database is yours, and we can’t access it. Apple stores it under the iCloud terms and Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- Payments found in bank texts, the texts themselves and the links between bank accounts and UrWally accounts aren’t synced. They stay on the iPhone that received them.
- To remove the iCloud copy, turn off Sync with iCloud, then delete UrWally’s data from your iCloud storage in the Settings app.
04Bank texts and receipts
- UrWally only reads bank texts after you set up the Shortcuts automation, and you can switch it off at any time in the Shortcuts app.
- Once it’s on, iOS passes each incoming text message to UrWally on your iPhone. If a text doesn’t look like a payment, UrWally throws it away straight away and notes only the time, so it can show that the automation is working. Texts that are just one-time passcodes are never stored.
- Texts that look like payments are kept on your iPhone so you can check the payment found in them.
- Receipts you share to UrWally from apps like GPay, PhonePe or Paytm are read on your iPhone. Screenshots are read with Apple’s built-in text recognition.
- Nothing from your messages or receipts is sent to us or to anyone else.
05Smart add and voice
These are the only features that send what you enter off your iPhone, and only when you use them. Each time, UrWally sends our server:
- the words you type, or a recording of what you say;
- the names of your tags and accounts, your currency and the app’s language, so the result fits how you’ve set things up.
Our server passes this to OpenAI, which turns the recording into text and sorts it into entries. The result comes back to your iPhone, where you check it before anything is saved. Our server doesn’t keep what you send. OpenAI handles it under its own terms and privacy policy for its API, at openai.com/policies.
- Recordings aren’t saved on your iPhone either. They’re held in memory until they’re sent.
- Questions about your saved payments are answered on your iPhone. If you ask one out loud, only the recording goes to our server to become text. Your saved entries don’t leave your iPhone.
- Answers are read aloud with your iPhone’s built-in voice.
06What our server sees
- The app identifies itself to our server with a key that’s the same for everyone, not with anything about you.
- To keep Smart add fair for everyone, the server counts requests from each internet (IP) address. Those counts are held in memory for no more than a day and are never written to disk.
- If a request fails, the server records a short error message so we can fix the problem.
- Our server runs on Amazon Web Services in Mumbai, India.
07Permissions
- Microphone: used only when you tap to talk, and only while you’re recording.
- Photos: UrWally never asks for your photo library. You choose which receipts to share with it.
- Notifications: UrWally doesn’t send you notifications. iCloud may send it silent background notices so it can sync, which you won’t see.
08What we don’t do
- There’s no UrWally account, so we don’t have your name, email address or phone number.
- There are no ads, analytics or trackers in UrWally or on this website. We don’t track you across other apps or websites.
- We don’t sell your information or share it for advertising, and we don’t use it to train AI models.
09Apple
- If you’ve chosen in iOS Settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics.
- If you test UrWally through TestFlight, Apple passes on the feedback and crash reports you choose to send, under Apple’s TestFlight terms.
10This website
This website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or trackers, and it loads no third-party scripts or fonts. The service that hosts it may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to keep it running and secure.
11Your choices
- See and change: everything you’ve recorded is in the app, where you can edit or delete it.
- Take a copy: Settings → Export entries gives you a CSV spreadsheet of every entry.
- Delete: deleting UrWally removes its data from that iPhone. To delete the iCloud copy too, see section 03.
- Stop sending: if you don’t use Smart add or voice, nothing you enter is sent to our server. To stop UrWally reading texts, turn off the automation in Shortcuts.
Because we don’t keep your information, there’s usually nothing for us to give you or delete. If you have a question or a complaint about your privacy, contact us (section 16). You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
12Children
UrWally isn’t meant for children. If you’re under 18, please use it only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission.
13Where it’s processed
Our server is in India. OpenAI may process Smart add requests in the United States and other countries. Apple stores iCloud data according to its own policies.
14Security
- On your iPhone, UrWally’s data is protected by iOS, including your passcode and its built-in encryption.
- Smart add requests travel to our server over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, and our server only passes them on to OpenAI.
- No system is perfectly secure, so we keep what leaves your iPhone to a minimum.
15Changes
We’ll update this policy when UrWally changes what it does with information. We’ll change the date at the top, and if a change is significant we’ll also mention it in the app or on this site.
